Last week we experienced an overnight storm with hurricane force winds. In all my years in Anchorage, I have never seen anything like it. This is a picture of Emilee and a neighbor looking at the damage to our house and yard.
We lost a total of 8 trees in our backyard. The gusts of up to 100 mph were too much for our old spruce tree. In this picture it is being held up by our electrical service line. Luckily, the cable held strong until the utility could come and cut the top off the tree.
Our neighbors had a 80 foot cottonwood tree come down in their yard, crushing several fences, and taking out several overhead lines in the process.
The most expensive damage was to our roof. The shingles were about due for replacement anyways . . . . .
A few weeks ago, we were feeling fortunate that we do not live in hurricane, or tornado country. I was wondering if I would have a use for the new chain saw that Emilee gave me for my birthday. And now, we have enough firewood to last, well; a long time.
